Lucas Romanek and Oldfield Motorsport will make their GB4 debuts on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit this weekend (7/8 May).
The British driver has raced in Formula Ford across the last year since his karting graduation, and joined the team half way through 2021. With Oldfield, he was a front-runner in the Walter Hayes Trophy and claimed victories in the Champion of Brands and Martin Down Trophy events.
Romanek has started the 2022 season in strong form too, and claimed a maiden National Formula Ford victory with the squad at Knockhill towards the start of April.
The 18-year-old’s career began as a karting rookie in 2017, starting in Tyro Karts and winning the championship with a record points total in 2018. In the same year, he secured six other titles, and moved to Junior X30s in 2019, adding another title to his list of achievements.
After stepping up to Senior X30 karts in 2020 and finishing ninth overall in the Ultimate Kart Championship, he made his car-racing debut in 2021.
End of year success came in the form of finishing sixth in the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone, just a second away from victory in a mass train of cars competing for the outright win, and was classified seventh overall in the National Formula Ford Championship in his first season.
Remaining in Formula Ford this year, he’s taken two podiums in addition to his Knockhill victory and lies third overall in the championship standings at present.
