Elite Motorsport's stand-in driver Yani Stevenheydens claimed both pole positions on offer at Donington Park last weekend, and in doing so, ensured that no other driver can now catch his teammate Fred Green in the George Russell Pole Position Cup.
Stevenheyens, who has previously raced single-seaters as high up the ladder as Eurocup-3, showed all his experience by setting the fastest time in Saturday morning's qualifying session, with a margin of 0.372s. For the race two grid, formed by each driver's second quickest times, his gap was reduced to 0.211s.
Stevenheydens claimed the full £300 prize money on offer, as well as a pair of trophies, a memento of what is expected to be his sole appearance in GB4.
Heading into the event, the only driver able to catch Green in the standings was KMR's championship leader Alex O'Grady, who realistically needed to claim a double pole of his own. Instead, Green has a three pole advantage, with just two to play for at the Brands Hatch finale.
Green will be presented with the Pole Position Cup and an additional prize of £1,000 at Brands Hatch, while his Elite Motorsport team will claim the David Poole Warren Pole Position Cup, and a further £1,000 prize.
Awards are presented at each round by John Cavill, who has played a major role in supporting drivers in MSV’s championships since 2013, and beyond that with many other contenders who have gone on to become leading names in the sport.
