Fortec Motorsports has become the first team to collect its Tatuus F4-T014 cars for use in the 2022 GB4 Championship partnered by the BRDC.
The Daventry-based squad has purchased two cars from MSV and received them at Bedford Autodrome this week. A busy testing programme is planned for the weeks after Christmas.
The single-seater powerhouse will add GB4 to its busy roster for next season, which also includes MSV’s GB3 Championship, with the team on the lookout for more stars to follow in the footsteps of their previous drivers including Charles Leclerc, Stoffel Vandoorne and Juan Pablo Montoya.
Fortec has also provided the two most recent winners of the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award, courtesy of Tom Gamble in 2018 and Johnathan Hoggard in 2019.
Team Principal Richard Dutton is looking forward to getting his new cars on track, and is reporting strong levels of driver interest.
“We’ve got quite a bit of interest, and it looks like the grids are going to be very positive”, he commented. “We intend to do both GB4 and FIA Formula 4 and there’s a different market for both. It should feed in nicely and we’re looking forward to getting out there running.
“It makes a lot of sense for us to do GB4, combining it with our GB3 team, and we’re looking forward to the new challenge”, he added.
Fortec will be mainly focusing its efforts on UK-based competition in 2022, having previously operated in continental championships including World Series by Renault and Formula Renault NEC.
“It should fit in nicely with our existing teams,” he continued. “We’ll probably just concentrate on our three British teams; that is the plan at the moment. With GB3 and GB4 in the same paddock, it’ll be a lot easier to monitor both teams at the same time, which makes life easier.”
At least two other teams are scheduled to collect their Tatuus F4-T014 GB4 cars from MSV’s first batch of deliveries at Bedford Autodrome across the next few days, with a further 11 more cars due to arrive at the venue before Christmas.
