GB4 Silverstone race two: Granfors steals championship lead after second Silverstone victory

GB4 Silverstone race two: Granfors steals championship lead after second Silverstone victory

28 April 2024

Fortec Motorsport’s Linus Granfors put on a stunning show at Silverstone, as he made it three consecutive GB4 victories in with his latest triumph at the home of the British Grand Prix.

The Swedish driver, who won race one yesterday and the Oulton Park finale, started third on the grid, but fought up to second on the first lap and blasted past pole sitter Finn Harrison on the run to Maggotts at the start of the second tour.

From there, he marched away, taking the flag over seven seconds clear of the pack, while Elite's Harrison held off multiple challenges to take his first GB4 podium, after a feisty drive to second.

Arden's Leon Wilson also claimed a maiden rostrum in third after a fightback performance, having dropped to fifth on the opening lap.

Alisha Palmowski mounted a strong comeback drive of her own after an opening lap stall. The Elite Motorsport driver ended lap one in eighth but carved her way through, while also surviving a high speed skirmish with Chloe Grant at Maggotts.

Grant's KMR Sport teammate Harry Burgoyne finished third on the road, but dropped to fifth post race after picking up a 10 second penalty for a false start.

Fox Motorsport's Branden Templeton was sixth ahead of Mayer Deonarine, while the third KMR machine of Brandon McCaughan was eighth, but had challenged for the podium only to spin while racing Harrison, and then was also adjudged to have made a false start, and picked up a 10 second penalty, but still finished in eighth.

Graham Brunton Racing's Callum Baxter and privateer Marcus Luzio, who set the fastest lap of the race on the final tour, completed the top-10 after another entertaining contest.

Harrison made a good start from pole position, while Granfors immediately moved up to second on the run to Copse. The pair began their fight almost immediately, as the Swede went for the lead at Brooklands, with Harrison toughing it out around the outside to take the inside at Luffield.

But Granfors pounced on the run to Maggotts, while behind, Burgoyne and McCaughan found their way past Wilson.

While Granfors pulled away, Harrison was at the centre of all the action once again, but this time he held his own as McCaughan threatened having passed Burgoyne. The Irish racer looked to have an edge, but contact between the two at Brooklands resulted in a spin for the KMR driver while Harrison was delayed, but somehow kept hold of second place.

All this allowed Granfors to build a lead of over nine seconds, allowing him to take it easy on the final lap to complete his Silverstone clean sweep. His third win in a row means he takes over the championship lead from Burgoyne, holding a 14-point margin heading to the next rounds at Donington Park.
