Debutant Stevenheydens storms to double GB4 pole at Donington Park

05 September 2026

Elite Motorsport's stand-in contender Yani Stevenheydens claimed both pole positions at Donington Park, as he made an instant impression on his GB4 debut.

At the wheel of Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso's car, the Belgian driver set a 1m27.990s for race one pole, while for the race two grid, set by each driver's second fastest times, he set a 1m28.448s, which puts him at the front for the second encounter too.

Despite it being his first visit to Donington, and a first proper week of GB4 action, the experienced 20-year-old took full advantage of his opportunity and set his best time just before the red flags were flown, with Fortec's Franek Cegielski in the gravel at Coppice.

When the session resumed with five minutes to go, Stevenheyden's lap remained unbeaten, and almost four tenths of a second clear of the field.

His teammate and fellow McLaren Elite Pathway driver Fred Green was next up, as he looks to breathe life into his championship campaign.

KMR Sport's championship leader Alex O'Grady was just half a tenth behind in third, with the championship top-two effectively alongside each other on the grid for race one.

Fortec's Thomas Ingram Hill was 0.124s in arrears to take fourth, a tenth ahead of Pace Performance's Torrin Byrne.

Dayton Coulthard set the sixth quickest time, just eight thousandths of a second further back, while Cegielski was still classified seventh despite his session-ending trip into the gravel.

Conor Grant (Douglas) and Hillspeed's Enzo Hallman were separated by 0.003s in eighth and ninth, with Hallman's teammate Connor Willis completing a top-10 covered by eight tenths of a second.

For the race two grid, Stevenheydens will line up ahead of Green again, this time with a margin of 0.211s. Byrne climbs up to third ahead of O'Grady, with Ingram Hill and Coulthard in the top-six again.

Grant, Josh McLean (Pace), Hallman and John O'Donnell (Pace) completed the top-10, split this time by just over half a second.

The first race of the weekend is due to start at 18.00 BST.
