KMR Sport’s Alex O’Grady has the opportunity to seal his maiden championship title this weekend when the 2026 GB4 season comes to a close at Brands Hatch.
The Irishman has a 49-point advantage in the drivers’ standings over Elite Motorsport’s Fred Green, meaning he has an opportunity to wrap up the title on Saturday if results go his way.
A win in race one would immediately rule out the other three title contenders: Douglas Motorsport’s Dayton Coulthard, Hillspeed’s Enzo Hallman and Fortec Motorsports’ Thomas Ingram Hill. If Green was to finish no higher than seventh, the title would be sealed with two races still to run.
The odds are firmly stacked in O’Grady’s favour, and the 17-year-old is relaxed about the weekend ahead.
“I'm confident that, if nothing goes wrong, we'll wrap it up,” he said. “Something might go wrong out of my control, you never know, and that might put me back a bit. Hopefully everything goes right as, if we put it all together, the pace is definitely there to try and get pole position and the win.”
Despite everything at stake, O’Grady remains determined to secure his fourth victory of the season and end his sophomore GB4 season on a high.
“The aim is to try and win as always,” he said. “Then, after race two, I think I'll pretty much have [the title] sealed up if I can do that.”
O’Grady topped one of the in-season test sessions at Brands Hatch two weeks ago, setting the third-fastest time overall on the day behind Ingram Hill and Green. He also topped the times in April during pre-season testing.
“We were really quick here in pre-season and today has been really strong,” said O’Grady after the in-season test. “In session one, we were P1 by a couple of tenths [of a second], and in session two there was a red flag that stopped us from going quicker.
“In the last session, I went on new tyres straight away and the two in front of me went new at the halfway point, so they had a bit better tyres when the track was at its best. We’re only a couple of tenths off with that, so happy enough and I'm looking forward to going racing here.”
If O’Grady is to secure the drivers’ title, it would be his first championship victory in single-seaters, and his first title since he won the British Kart Championship and IAME International Final in 2019.
“It’s very important because you have the prize money too, so that would definitely help me going into next year,” he said.
