Elite Motorsport’s Fred Green has his sights firmly set on the drivers’ title ahead of this weekend’s GB4 Championship finale at Brands Hatch.
The 17-year-old trails KMR Sport’s Alex O’Grady by 49 points with a maximum of 102 still available, meaning he will not only need a near-perfect weekend from himself, but also some misfortune to hit his title rival.
“The plan will be to win both [main] races,” said Green. “Like we've seen with me throughout the year, the bad luck can easily come your way.
“We'll see what happens to [Alex] but I'll just make sure I do my job and also, in the reversed-grid, I'll be definitely on the move.”
Green, who won joined the Elite McLaren Talent Pathway this year, is remaining calm ahead of the decisive weekend, admitting that he was “quite sad” that it is the final round of the season.
“It's come around so fast and I've really been enjoying my time,” he said. “Obviously, I’ve got the championship to fight for. We're a bit further back in the points, so there's not much pressure on my shoulders at all. I'm just going to be approaching it full-send and making the most of everything I can.”
Despite starting the weekend more than a race victory behind O’Grady in terms of points, the Briton has his sights firmly set on the drivers’ title and finishing his 2026 campaign in the strongest possible way.
“I'm not really interested in second,” he said. “Like most people, it doesn't mean a lot to me. I just want to finish the season as good as I can. The main thing is that, this year, I've proven that I'm fast enough with more pole positions than anyone, so that's a great achievement and a good sign going forward.”
Along with securing more 'main race' wins than any other driver (four), Green has also claimed the George Russell Pole Position Cup for 2026, with five pole positions to his name so far. He receives a £1,000 end of year prize along with the £150 earned for each individual pole, as well as awarding £1,000 to his Elite Motorsport team.
“It’s a bit of prize money for Ed [Ives, team principal] and also pays my damage bill a bit with the money that I get,” said Green. “It's always nice to win stuff like that, but more poles than anyone is just an outlining of how much speed we've had, which is very positive.”
At the in-season Brands Hatch test, Green topped the second session and recorded the second-fastest time overall. He was 0.205 seconds behind Fortec Motorsports’ pace-setter, Thomas Ingram Hill, and beat his title rival O’Grady by 0.026s at the end of the day.
Green competed at the circuit in the Ginetta Junior Championship last year, recording strong results throughout the weekend. He is confident of repeating that success this weekend.
“In Ginettas I had a pole here, won two out of the three races and finished second in the other one, so I have a bit of confidence,” he said. “[In GB4, there is] limited running around Brands, so the fact that [my rivals] have already done a race weekend in GB4 here will help them, but I don't see why we won't be giving them a good run for their money.”
