Rookie champion: Cegielski "proud" after securing inaugural Rookie title

01 October 2026

Fortec Motorsports' Franciszek Cegielski was crowned as the inaugural GB4 Rookie Title winner at Brands Hatch last weekend, with the honour coming off the back of an impressive first season of car racing.

The Polish driver's season belied his lack of experience, as he finished 20 of the year's 21 races, with 15 top-10 finishes. The main highlight was a second place at Donington Park in June, while he also showed excellent speed in qualifying, with 10 top-10 qualifying results.

He placed eighth in the outright standings, 67 points clear of the nearest rookie driver, with the Rookie Title, for drivers that had competed in no more than three car racing event prior to the season, going his way as a result.

"I'm super happy, proud of my team and myself with the work we put in" he commented. "I'm just glad it ended up like that.

"The speed and consistency was key for me. And not crashing a lot! I only had one DNF this season."

The 16-year-old now hopes to use his rookie success as a launchpad to climb up the motorsport ladder.

"I want to go higher up, I think every driver needs to think that like that. So, you know, go higher, gain experience all the time. Don't focus so much about the results, because they will come, but what you want to have is as much experience as you can. So I hope I'll go a bit higher next year, If not, I hope I get a title here.

"But I'm happy, I'm proud with the work the whole team put in, because now I know hard work pays off!"
