Byrne secures best results yet in Oulton Park qualifying

23 May 2026

Pace Performance’s Torrin Byrne continued his strong start to the Oulton Park weekend by securing his best qualifying position in the GB4 Championship to date.

The 17-year-old was seventh and ninth in qualifying for races one and two respectively, demonstrating an obvious improvement from the first round at Silverstone, where he lined up 13th for both.

“It is where we thought we should have been,” said Byrne. “I still want more; we’re not at the top yet but it is definitely a good qualifying and an improvement from Silverstone.”

The Briton has shown strong pace throughout the weekend, having been fourth fastest in the third Thursday test session. Byrne has placed inside the top-10 in four of the six test sessions prior to qualifying and was 11th in the other two.

“I think we’ve had this pace all of testing,” he said. “We did throughout Silverstone, even in the qualifying, which was quite messy. We raced through quite well at Silverstone. I think this shows more where we are and it’s quite representative.”

At Silverstone, Byrne converted his 13th-placed starts to two ninth-placed finishes in races one and three but retired from race two after suffering suspension damage due to contact with Hillspeed’s Connor Willis.

While Oulton Park is a vastly different prospect to Silverstone, Byrne still has a plan in mind for the races.

“It’s harder to race around here,” he admitted. “We’ve just got to be patient and take every opportunity that you have.”

The racing action kicks off this afternoon, with race one scheduled to start at 15.00. Races two and three take place on Monday.
