Franciszek Cegielski continued his encouraging start to the Oulton Park weekend by finishing day two of testing sixth fastest overall.
The Fortec Motorsport driver was also the fastest rookie, with his nearest challenger over six tenths of a second back in 11th. His pace has demonstrated a step forward in comparison to the season-opener at Silverstone, where he achieved a best result of 14th, but he is still searching for more.
“We are still testing and looking for more because there is definitely more in my driving,” he said. “I think we can fight for top positions this weekend and we just need to set up everything, put a lap together and give everything in the races.”
The Pole has also closed the gap to his teammate Thomas Ingram Hill, ending Friday within four tenths of a second of the Briton. Ingram Hill remained with Fortec for his sophomore GB4 season, having finished sixth in the drivers’ standings last season with the team, claiming two podiums.
Cegielski explained how having a more experienced teammate has helped him so far this season.
“It’s good to be close because we can take data and improve my driving.”
Those improvements were particularly evident on Thursday, as he finished two of the four test sessions second fastest and even finished ahead of Ingram Hill in session two.
“Yesterday I was a top guy, so I think everything is possible tomorrow,” he said. “I just need to set a lap, don’t make any mistakes and full push.”
Cegielski has evidently been enjoying the different challenge which the Oulton Park circuit poses in comparison to the Silverstone season-opener. With much less forgiving run offs and a narrower, undulating layout, it is proving to be a hit with the 16-year-old rookie.
“I enjoy the track a lot,” he smiled. “I like the heavy kerbs. You have to be so aggressive on this track, there’s no room for any mistakes and I like it.”
