Pace Performance's Josh McLean demonstrated that he'll be a strong GB4 contender this year, after an encouraging start to his season at Silverstone.
The British driver, entering his second year in GB4, bounced back from a difficult qualifying session, in which he put himself 17th and 16th on the grid for the first two races. He battled up to 12th and ninth from those positions, and ended the event with a drive to 10th, banking a total of 34 points, his biggest weekend haul in GB4 so far, and enough to put him eighth in the early standings.
"Silverstone was a very good recovery in all three races given our qualifying," he said. "Damage limitation, so I was pretty happy with the end results. Clean racing and a good haul of points.
"The battles at Silverstone were really good, particularly when we were almost three into one at Brooklands!"
He's stayed with Sean Byrne's team for his second season, with that continuity reaping rewards already.
"Remaining with Pace for my second year is huge for my career; it’s been a great decision and I'm very happy with the progress we’ve been making."
McLean obviously has race experience at Oulton Park from last year, scene of his best result of the entire campaign, and something he's hoping to build on this time around.
"Race experience is key for Oulton with it being much harder to overtake than at Silverstone, but qualifying is more important.
"We had a bit of everything at Oulton last year! I'm unsure whether the weather will be as difficult as it was last year but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. The team did a great job of handling it last year so we’ll look to do the same should we get a repeat."
As for targets, McLean believes one lap pace will be key to making further gains towards the front of the field.
"A good qualifying is what we need. If we can be in the top-10 on Saturday morning it’ll be a good step from Silverstone and a great step forward from last year."
