Byrne: "The target will always be to win the championship"

05 March 2026

Ginetta Junior front-runner Torrin Byrne makes the step up to the GB4 Championship with his family-run Pace Performance team this year, and the British contender is aiming for a tilt at the title.

Having almost taken the Ginetta Junior Winter title at the end of last year, Byrne is hoping that his first car racing crown can come in single-seaters.

"The target will always be to win the championship" he says. "As a team and as myself, we will always give everything we have.

"I am thoroughly excited to make the step up into single-seaters this year and I am looking forward to the season ahead. Moving into single-seaters is a milestone but also a key part of my development as a driver."

The move from junior sports cars to single-seaters is always a big change, but Byrne has been building confidence in the car across recent weeks, with tests in Spain and the UK, and benefiting from the experience within the squad.

"I think every car you drive you have to adapt to in some form. However I have fitted well into the GB4 car.

"The thing that makes the transition process easier is the work I completed within the team last year across the second Silverstone GP race weekend. This was me integrating myself into the part of the team I am now in. It doesn’t feel new, it feels familiar.

"On the driving side having people like Zak [O'Sullivan] and also Johnathan Hoggard on my team brings a lot of single seater experience to help me as a driver."

He also admits that the decision to join GB4 this year was a straightforward one.

"With GB4 already being run by the team but also being a competitive single-seater championship that is a great for my development as a driver, it was the obvious choice to go for. It suits what we are trying to achieve now and in the future.

"I am excited to start the official tests and getting into the season."
