GB4 race winner Liam McNeilly made his Porsche Supercup debut last weekend at Monaco, and scored points immediately on his top-line sports car debut.
The British youngster won two races and claimed eight further podiums as he claimed third place in the 2024 GB4 standings, and has since competed in USF Juniors, USF2000 and the USF Pro 2000 series in the USA, as well as a handful of races in GB3 at the end of last year.
For 2026 however, he's switched his focus to sports cars, joining the Porsche Supercup which races alongside F1 throughout the year.
This year's campaign got underway at one of the most glamorous events of all, the Monaco Grand Prix, and McNeilly impressed immediately, setting the 13th time in official practice, his first time driving on the circuit in the 520bhp Porsche 911 Cup machine.
He backed that up by qualifying 16th in the 27-car field, no small feat given the vast majority of his rivals had raced at the circuit in previous seasons.
Judging his clutch control to perfection on the starting grid, Liam made moves at the start and another before the end of the first lap, but with the ultra-tight confines of the circuit presenting huge risk at every turn, further opportunities to gain ground proved limited.
He finished 14th to secure championship points on his debut with a best lap time just 0.7s slower than that of the winning driver, and was the sixth-highest finisher in the rookie category.
“Monaco was an unreal experience, 10 times crazier than I expected, but what an amazing place to race" McNeilly enthused afterwards.
"When we walked the track on Wednesday – with all the roads open to normal traffic – you just wouldn’t think it would be possible to race at more than 100 miles an hour, but somehow we managed it without any major dramas, and I managed to overtake three cars too, so that’s a real career box ticked.
"I didn’t really have any set targets for the weekend, but I wasn’t far from a Rookie podium, so that has to be the aim for Barcelona and beyond, and I think it’s well within what we can achieve this year.”
McNeilly's season resumes at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend (13-15 June).
