Having secured his first podium in the GB4 Championship at Donington Park, Franciszek Cegielski is confident that his maiden victory is just a formality.
The Fortec Motorsports driver finished second in race one at Donington, just half a second behind polesitter and race winner Luke Hilton.
“I’m super happy with the podium and glad to step on it after just two rounds,” said the Pole.
He rounded out the weekend with two ninth place finishes and will enter the fourth round of the season at Silverstone ninth in the drivers’ standings with 101 points. Despite a second successive weekend of three top 10 finishes, this year's lead rookie was left frustrated by his performances in races two and three at Donington.
“There was more to give,” he said. “I made a few mistakes that I shouldn’t have but it’s all experience.”
“Overall, I’m happy with the result. It was a tricky qualifying and not the way I would like to start on the front row, but I’ll take it all day.”
Leading the rookie standings after the opening three rounds, the 16-year-old is confident of fighting with the more experienced drivers ahead of him in the standings.
“I think I am capable of fighting at the top consistently,” said Cegielski. “Race after race, I feel so much better. The pace is always there, it’s just about getting the experience, getting more laps in and the wins are pretty close.”
Having raced at Silverstone in the April season-opener, Cegielski is pleased to be back racing at a circuit he is especially familiar with.
“I feel better than the last two rounds because I know what to expect from the track and what to work on,” he said.
