Torrin Byrne secured his maiden podium in the GB4 Championship when the series visited Donington Park last month and has now set his sights on a first victory.
The Much Wenlock-native surged from 17th on the grid to claim third in race two, during a weekend that produced some enthralling action.
Byrne has been a consistent top-10 finisher in his debut GB4 campaign and admitted his relief for securing his first podium in the championship.
“It’s quite relieving really because it’s pace that we have definitely had,” said the 17-year-old. “I think we did a very good job with the situation we had after qualifying. I don’t think the podium really shows that [fully]; we kept a very positive outlook which really helped us through the weekend.”
Starting 19th, 17th and 20th after his qualifying laps were deleted for track limits violations, Byrne secured finishes of 15th, third and 10th in the three races, navigating his way through the traffic to earn a solid points tally across the weekend.
He admitted that, amongst the excitement of the races, it took him a while to process that he had finished on the podium in race two.
“It didn’t really sink in until I got back to the assembly area,” said Byrne. “We were up nine places after lap one and it was really just a race of staying out of trouble. I did that very well and we stayed out of trouble efficiently, gaining as many places as we could.”
The GB4 Championship returns to Silverstone for the second time in 2026 at the start of August, with just 16 points covering the top three in the drivers’ standings. Byrne, currently 73 points off the championship lead, is hoping to continue his strong form.
“I feel in a much stronger place now,” he said. “I’m looking forward to proving what we have again.”
For the Briton, he has his sights firmly set on his next target.
“It’s just maximising what we have all the time,” he explained. “It’s what we try to do every round and I’m sure we’ll continue to do that throughout [the season]. The win is definitely the next thing on the list.”
