Iskander makes big step forward at Donington Park

Fox Motorsport’s Jasser Iskander had his best weekend to date when the GB4 Championship visited Donington Park last month.

When the majority of drivers had lap times deleted in qualifying for track limits infringements, the Saudi Arabian kept it clean to benefit, securing 10th place with his fastest effort.

The 15-year-old was unfortunate to retire from the opening two contests, having been involved in an incident at Redgate in race one and was then hit from behind in race two after another driver missed their braking point.

“I feel good despite a disappointing first two races,” said Iskander.

In race three, he delivered his best performance in GB4 to date, having started on reverse-grid pole and fighting hard to keep the field behind him.

“I was happy to start from pole, but [it was] a shame that I couldn’t manage to keep it within the podium at least,” said Iskander. “I’ll take the P7 though.”

Seventh was still the best result this season for Iskander, who was the highest finishing rookie in the race.

He noted that scoring nine points and battling with drivers higher in the championship was a welcome change of fortune.

“It’s enjoyable but hard, really hard, trying to keep most of the grid behind me,” he admitted. “It’s a great learning experience.”

Iskander will hope to build on that experience when the GB4 Championship heads to Silverstone for the second time this season at the end of the month.

“It felt good [to be battling in the midfield],” he said. “Hopefully we can add to that at Silverstone. I feel far more confident now, much more than we were in the first race [there].”
