Pace Performance’s John O’Donnell reckons he should be in the mix for podiums before too long, based on the speed demonstrated last weekend at Silverstone.
At the home of the British Grand Prix, the American-Korean scored his best result of the year with eighth place in the weekend finale, in which he gained seven spots during a feisty drive, even if he thought more was on the table.
“There are some things that I could have capitalised on a little bit better, and I could have made better decisions during a couple of moves that I attempted to do,” he said. But other than that I think the whole team had good pace at Silverstone, and we’re working really hard to get where we’re at as a whole team.”
O’Donnell is in the middle of his first full season of car racing, having first entered GB4 at the start of last year. As he gains experience, he’s moving further up the grid and mixing with the busy midfield with greater regularity.
“I think Silverstone was a whole learning experience because it was my first real time being in that type of pack. So we had a little bit of trial and error and a little bit of quick learning and quick decisions that I think will benefit me in the future.”
His Pace Performance team is in its second year of single-seater racing, and more experienced teammates Josh McLean and Torrin Byrne are flying high inside the top-10 in the standings, with McLean winning twice and Byrne taking a pair of podiums in that time.
O’Donnell is looking at the team’s all-round performance as a sign that he too can challenge for silverware before the end of the year.
“I think it helps that we’re all moving forward as a team in little incremental steps. I think it’s putting confidence in the other drivers and in the team as a whole. So if we can keep that momentum I really think that all three of us can be fighting for wins and podiums this year.”
