Green on the verge of George Russell Pole Position Cup honours after latest pole at Snetterton

17 August 2026

Elite Motorsport's Fred Green is on the verge of claiming this year's George Russell Pole Position Cup, after taking his fifth pole of the year at Snetterton last weekend.

The British driver has taken three more poles than any other driver so far in 2026, and simply needs to claim one more across the next two race events to secure this year's prize.

Green secured race one pole at the East Anglian circuit, while KMR Sport's championship leader Alex O'Grady took the honours for race two, with the grid for that contest set by each driver's second quickest lap times from the 20 minute session. Both drivers secured £150 and a trophy as part of the George Russell Pole Position Cup.

O'Grady is the only other driver in with a realistic chance of claiming the prize, but would need to take at least three more poles of the four still available, without Green claiming any more.

Green has so far earned £750 in prize money, which he says has "been covering my front wing bills! Unfortunately none of it has yet ended up in my pocket, but that's what it is for!"

The driver with the most poles at the end of the season will win the Pole Position Cup and an additional prize of £1,000. The team of the driver with the most poles will win the David Poole Warren Pole Position Cup, and a further £1,000 prize.

Awards are presented at each round by John Cavill, who has played a major role in supporting drivers in MSV’s championships since 2013, and beyond that with many other contenders who have gone on to become leading names in the sport.

2026 George Russell Pole Position Cup standings:
1. Fred Green – 5 poles
2. Alex O'Grady - 2 pole
= Luke Hilton - 1 pole
= Demitri Nolan - 1 pole
= Thomas Ingram Hill - 1 pole
