Elite Motorsport’s Alex Kattoulas has ground to make up if he is to claim this year’s GB4 Championship title, but the Japanese-Greek contender has already demonstrated he has the pace to challenge for victories, and is targeting big scores at the Donington Park decider.
Kattoulas has a win to his name at Silverstone and four additional podiums, and is 73 points behind championship leader Dan Guinchard. But with four races at Donington Park, the 19-year-old can score a maximum of 130 points across the event, keeping him well in the fight.
Despite that pressure, he’s keeping his cool and looking forward to the fight ahead.
“I go into every weekend with the same mindset, of putting my best foot forward no matter the circumstances in the championship, car, weather, anything, so that will be no different at Donington” he said. “I’m looking forward to it!”
The busy schedule allows more chances for those ahead of Kattoulas to slip up, and he’s hoping to take every opportunity that comes his way.
“The weekend schedule is slightly different, especially with three races on the Sunday, but at the end of the day it is the same for everyone and more racing is always better!
“Personally, the pressure is always the same no matter the situation, championship or not. But that might be different for the others and if they feel the heat, I will be there to take advantage.”
All three Elite Motorsport drivers are in the fight, with teammates Ary Bansal and Isaac Phelps immediately ahead of him in the standings. But cooperation between the yellow-clad racers has been a key strength all year, and Kattoulas isn’t expecting that to stop at the final round.
“It's been really fun competing with my teammates this year, we've learnt a lot from each other and it’s always been close between us. It won't be any different at Donington, so I'm sure that it will be fun as usual!”
