Elite Motorsport's Isaac Phelps stormed to his fifth and sixth pole positions of the season in qualifying at Donington Park this morning, as he claimed this year's George Russell Pole Position Cup.
Phelps left it late to secure pole, with the battle almost exclusively between the title contenders throughout the 15 minutes. In damp conditions, his best lap of 1m40.757s was just under a quarter of a second quicker than Guinchard for the race one grid.
Phelps' next best time of 1m40.964s gave him race two pole, 0.267s clear of Guinchard.
In a tantalising prospect ahead of the season deciding weekend, Hillspeed's championship leader Dan Guinchard will not only start alongside him on the front row for both 'main' races, but the pair are also set to be alongside each other for the two reverse grid contests on Sunday too!
While the championship contenders provided plenty to talk about up front, Arden's Leon Wilson equalled his best qualifying result of the year in third, while Douglas Motorsport's Lucas Blakeley was fourth fastest overall on his GB4 return.
Hillspeed's Leandro Juncos was next up in fifth, and just nine thousandths of a second clear of the second Douglas car of Dayton Coulthard in sixth.
KMR's Alex O'Grady and Fortec's Jack Taylor were next up, as they bid to keep their own title chances alive, while Elite's Ary Bansal has work to do in the title fight, as he was only ninth fastest.
Fortec's Thomas Ingram Hill completed a top-10 covered by 0.964s. Remaining title contenders Enzo Hallman (Douglas) and Alex Kattoulas (Elite) were 13th and 15th quickest respectively.
With Phelps and Guinchard at the head of the race two grid also, Wilson was third once more ahead of Juncos and O'Grady.
Blakeley was sixth quickest while Bansal climbed to seventh. KMR's newcomer Lewis Wherrell will start an impressive eighth ahead of ADM's Jason Pribyl and Fortec's Jack Taylor, with the top-10 again covered by nine tenths of a second.
