What they said: Oulton Park qualifying

24 May 2025

Daniel Guinchard, Alex Kattoulas and Ary Bansal were the top-three drivers in qualifying at Oulton Park. Here's how each driver reacted at the end of the session.

Double pole, Dan Guinchard, Hillspeed:
"The team has been working so hard, it's been non stop and long hours since Silverstone to try and put it all together. We've come here with no testing and we knew it would be difficult, it's a difficult track, there's a lot to learn here, but it was good to start straight away earlier this week right at the front and it's the first time we've genuinely been able to challenge for pole. I'm glad we came out on top.

"I'm so happy, it's the first time I'll have started on the front row in a long time, so hopefully we can stay there and keep going on the right foot. I've never poled it in a single-seater, so it's my first time and it's been a long time coming!

"My starts have been really strong all season, we've made up places pretty much every time. Hopefully if we can just stay in the lead and get into a good rhythm, we know we've got the pace to be right at the front. I'm happy with it.

"It [prize money] will go towards a set of tyres or something for the next round! We're getting there but it's tight with budget so every little helps.

"It'll be massive if we can capitalise on this double pole and get some really strong points, it just gives us a nice buffer for the next round."

Second, Alex Kattoulas, Elite Motorsport:
"It was really close, I'm a bit disappointed but it's still a good place to start.

"I need to get a good start, that's the main thing. Once you're in front around here it'll be hard to lose it. So I need to get a good start down and see what happens.

"In the moment, you're doing the best you can and there's always a little bit more in it, especially when the gap is that small, there's always somewhere to find time. I'd have liked to have been on pole, but it was close.

"We can get big points this weekend, it would be great if we could just get one more place off the line. But I'm looking forward to the races."

Third, Ary Bansal, Elite Motorsport:
"Not too bad, but I think it could have been a bit better, on the last lap I had some traffic. But to get P3 after only doing one test session yesterday afternoon, which had a lot of red flags, it's not bad.

"I think a good start could have us fighting for P1 at the start, but we should definitely be in contention for the win at least from P3, it's still in my grasp.

"It's an important weekend because it's really close, and every little point is going to help. Of course it's not just this weekend, but every weekend going forward, so I need to keep on it."
