Ginetta Junior rookie runner-up Isaac Phelps graduates to GB4 with Elite Motorsport

07 March 2025

Hertfordshire teenager Isaac Phelps will remain with Elite Motorsport to contest his maiden single-seater season in the GB4 Championship.

The 15-year-old from Berkhamsted, who began karting in 2020, was the second best-placed Rookie in last year’s Ginetta Junior Championship, finishing an impressive fifth overall.

Phelps notably scored eight overall podiums, winning three races outright, and signing off from the category by becoming the Ginetta Winter Series Champion after winning two of the three races at Silverstone last November.

Phelps has since embarked on a comprehensive testing programme in the new GB4 car, and was second quickest on both days of this week's official test at Snetterton.

Isaac Phelps said: “I’m looking forward to racing the new GB4 car and competing on the long circuits of the championship. Single-seaters wasn’t my original intention. However, during my first season in cars with Elite, the team advised me to compete in single-seaters following Juniors so I could develop an understanding of how to race aero cars.

“I was also lucky to be able to test a GB3 car in October and I enjoyed it so much that I immediately knew I wanted to race this type of car next in my journey.

“We started last season well and initially looked and felt strong for the potential championship win. However, we lacked something mid-season but following further development, we were strong again for the final two rounds, backed up by my front-running pace at Donington and double pole and win at Brands. Plus of course we won the Winter Series soon after. So the year was strong but should have been better but that’s motorsport sometimes.

“I’m not racing with Elite this year because I have to, I’m racing with Elite because I want to. The team led by Ed [Ives] are all such fantastic people who want to win just as much as their drivers.

“And with the costs of motorsport so high, I’m really fortunate to have backing this season from a consortium of sponsors led by Glencar Construction. I’m excited to represent them all to my absolute best.”

Elite Motorsport Team Owner and Manager Eddie Ives said: “Elite Motorsport is built upon driver progression through our categories and Isaac is another perfect example.

“He was a really strong contender in Ginetta Juniors last year for us and certainly excelled towards the end of the year.

“Isaac still has plenty to learn going into single-seaters but he is a naturally very talented kid so I’m really pleased to complete our 2025 GB4 team with him.

“It should be a fantastic year ahead!”
