Bruce on a high after 'confidence booster' best result

KMR Sport's Megan Bruce is counting down the days to Snetterton after securing her best GB4 result last time out at Oulton Park.

The sophomore driver, competing for Kevin Mills' reigning champion squad, surged from 19th on the grid to fourth place in the Cheshire opener back in May, after making the correct strategy call pre-race to fit wet weather tyres in changeable conditions.

In just one lap, she gained 15 positions, and ran as high as third for much of the contest, before being demoted to fourth on the final lap.

"After a tricky qualifying it was great to get that result, although I was pretty frustrated being so close to the podium." she said.

"As soon as the rain started I knew I had a good chance of moving much higher up the grid. I love racing in the rain and have had gone well in the wet in the past, so this already gave me more confidence going into the race. Although disappointing it is a confidence booster and also shows I’m able to fight up there."

All races at Oulton Park were affected by rain in the build-up, with teams scurrying to fit what they thought would be the correct tyres in the assembly area before each contest. Bruce was certain however, that wets were the choice, and she made full use of her single-seater experience to bring home her best result following her barnstorming opening lap.

"Waiting in the assembly area, it was quite obvious for me and the team that the wet tyre was the right way to go, so I had no doubts about that.

"My experience from last year definitely would have helped my progression on lap one, I obviously expected to get past the slick runners quite fast, but perhaps not many of the other wet runners as fast as I did."

Bruce has shown an obvious upturn in pace compared to 2024, and has almost halved her deficit to the front-runners compared to last year based on 'super times.' Last year her average pace was at 102.210%, whereas in 2024 she's brought it down to 101.4%, which works out at an improvement of around three quarters of a second per lap around a standard 90 second lap.

As part of KMR Sport's line-up, Megan has access to the team's vast data banks, as well as the knowledge of 2023 champion Tom Mills. Even with the obvious progress, she's still looking to make further gains in the second half of the season.

"The team has been a big help, they [Tom & Kevin] are both so helpful and knowledgeable! I’m learning more and more about my driving and the setup changes every time out.

"I am happy with progress we’ve made in terms of the delta from last year to this year, and general improvements in the race.

"There’s always lots to improve on and although a few of the races at the start haven’t gone our way, it’s still promising to see and reminds me that when I can put everything together I can be up there."

With Snetterton on 12/13 July still a few weeks away, she's keeping herself sharp in preparation for the start of the second half of the campaign.

"Obviously gym and practicing on the sim are crucial in keeping myself prepared. I’ve also got a few test days before Snetterton to explore more in the car and put to practice what I learnt at Oulton Park. We showed promising pace in pre-season testing at Snetterton, so the target will be fighting in the top-10 and to keep improving on everything so far!"
