Hillspeed's championship leader Dan Guinchard added another accolade to his superb season so far, by claiming his first Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award last weekend at Snetterton.
Guinchard set the fastest laps in races one and two at the Norfolk venue, but it was his lap of 1m48.173s in race two, during his pursuit of leader Ary Bansal, which proved the quickest of the event, having registered a 1m48.231s in the opener.
At the mid-race distance of the second race, Guinchard had been 1.5 seconds behind Bansal, but his fastest lap of the event on lap six brought him to within just over half a second of the Indian driver, a gap he'd maintain until the end of the contest, and even threatening a last lap overtaking move.
Underlining the ultra-competitive nature of this year's fight, Guinchard is the fourth driver this season to claim the prize from GB4's control fuel supplier Sunoco. Bansal was the winner of the award at Donington Park, with teammate Alex Kattoulas the fastest driver at Silverstone. Graham Brunton Racing's Callum Baxter took the prize at Oulton Park.
Fortec's Jack Taylor was the other driver to record a fastest lap at Snetterton, during the disrupted third race.
