The crunch phase of the 2025 GB4 Championship is here! The Brands Hatch event this weekend marks the penultimate rounds of this year’s running, and is the first opportunity for Hillspeed’s Dan Guinchard to establish himself as the latest GB4 champion and claim the £50,000 prize that goes with it.
Following the introduction of the Tatuus MSV GB4-025 car at the start of the season, the Polish-British contender has been the driver to beat, combining a mix of speed with relentless consistency. He holds a 35-point margin at the top of the standings, but needs to extend that to at least 102 by the end of the weekend to be crowned with a full event to spare. Given the competitive nature of this year’s series, any championship coronation is most unlikely this weekend, but never say never…
Guinchard actually endured his most difficult event of the season last time out at Silverstone, but still netted a haul of 41 points from the three races despite a drama in qualifying that plunged him much further down the grid than usual. But with his nearest challengers also hitting various troubles, his lead at the start of the weekend was trimmed by just one point!
As they have been all season, Elite Motorsport’s Ary Bansal, Isaac Phelps and Alex Kattoulas have been his biggest rivals. All three are race winners in 2025, but each encountered trouble of one kind or another at Silverstone. It’s Bansal who is on the better form though, with a double win at Snetterton followed by another podium in the final Silverstone contest.
Young Indian driver Bansal has won more races than any other driver on the grid (three) while Britain’s Phelps has won twice, and Japanese-Greek ace Kattoulas once during a strong start to the season that netted four podiums from the opening five races.
KMR Sport’s Alex O’Grady is next up, and the young Irishman was an encouraging third quickest during the recent test day on the Grand Prix circuit a couple of weeks ago. One of 10 drivers to have won races already this year, O’Grady will need another this weekend to keep himself in the title mix.
Fortec’s Jack Taylor had already taken a couple of podiums in his sophomore season, but his campaign burst into life with a stunning breakthrough double win at Silverstone, moving him up to sixth in the standings.
Hillspeed’s Leandro Juncos is next up, and was another driver to enjoy a personal best event at the home of the British Grand Prix, with a podium double. He’s just one point behind Taylor and one ahead of Douglas Motorsport’s Enzo Hallman, another to have climbed onto the top step of the podium this year.
Taylor’s teammate Thomas Ingram Hill claimed his first podium in single-seaters at Silverstone, took two fourth place finishes to back that up, and then set the pace at the Brands Hatch test a few days later. He’s very much one to watch this weekend, so too is Arden’s Leon Wilson, who broke his win duck at Snetterton and took another podium at Silverstone.
Next up is Douglas Motorsport’s Oulton Park podium finisher Dayton Coulthard, the son of F1 legend David, while his teammate Luke Hilton scored a podium of his own at Snetterton. Pace Performance’s Stefan Bostandjiev claimed his and the team’s first single-seater win last time out at Silverstone and is 12 points further back.
KMR’s Megan Bruce continues to lead the race to be the top female driver at the end of the season, and a potential €50,000 prize awaits should she secure an F1 Academy drive next year. She’s equal on points with Pace’s Josh McLean, with Fortec’s Luca Magnussen just behind, Luca being the son of 1992 Formula Ford Festival winner Jan!
ADM’s Jason Pribyl is back in action this weekend, as the young American looks to make amends for an unfortunate end to his Silverstone weekend, while Arden’s Ava Dobson enters the event determined to make up ground on Bruce for the potential big prize.
Fox Motorsport’s Holly Miall will have the same mindset, while her teammate Caitlyn McDaniel continues to make progress in her graduation from a single campaign in karting.
KMR’s Lily Watkins continues to rack up points in her first car racing campaign, while Arden’s Dudley Ruddock joined the series at Snetterton and has shown decent progress so far.
Finally, Flame Airikkala switches to Hillspeed for her third GB4 event weekend, and completes the title-challenging squad’s three car line-up for the remainder of the year.
All the drama at Brands Hatch starts with testing on the Indy circuit on Friday, before qualifying at 13.30 on Saturday. The 15-minute session will form the grids for races one and two.
The race one grid (17.00 Saturday) will be based on each driver’s quickest qualifying times, while the race two line-up (10.25 Sunday) will be determined by each competitor’s second fastest times from the session.
The final contest will come at 17.25 on Sunday, with the grid featuring a top-12 reversal of the fastest qualifying times.
