Elite Motorsport's Alex Kattoulas converted pole into victory in the first GB4 Championship race of the weekend at Silverstone.
In doing so, the Japanese-Greek contender made it four different winners from the first four races of the season, finishing clear of teammate Ary Bansal, with Fortec's Jack Taylor fighting his way onto the podium with third.
Kattoulas takes the championship lead as a result of his win, adding the victory to his two podiums secured at Donington Park.
Kattoulas fended off a strong challenge from both of his Elite teammates and built a lead of 1.4 seconds at the end of the first lap. Elite’s Isaac Phelps and Ary Bansal also made strong starts off the line, while Douglas Motorsport’s Luke Hilton tried to trouble the leader on lap one as well, but was forced across the run off at Maggotts and Becketts.
Bansal moved up to second as a result, and the leading Elite pair demonstrated excellent pace to pull away from the chasing pack behind.
Kattoulas continued to build his lead throughout the race, and took the flag over 6.5 seconds clear of Bansal after a faultless drive, with Taylor finishing third after a tough battle with Isaac Phelps.
The latter took to the gravel at Woodcote while attempting to overtake Taylor and dropped down to fifth upon rejoining, where he would remain for the rest of the race. That incident allowed Arden Motorsport’s Leon Wilson to take fourth place.
Hillspeed’s Daniel Guinchard crossed the line in sixth, followed by Luke Hilton in seventh, who was involved in some feisty battles in the early stages of the race. His Douglas Motorsport teammate Dayton Coulthard came home in eighth place to secure his best GB4 result so far with Leandro Juncos in ninth. Thomas Ingram Hill completed the top-10 for Fortec Motorsport.
The second race of the weekend at Silverstone is due to start at 11.11 on Sunday morning, with Kattoulas again on pole.
