The second round of the GB4 Championship takes place on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit this weekend, and if the Donington Park season opener is anything to go by, ultra-close battles throughout the field should be expected!
This isn’t just the biggest GB4 field in the series history, but one stacked with talent too. A case in point being qualifying last time out, when the top-20 drivers were covered by just 1.067 seconds – the closest-matched single-seater qualifying on the Grand Prix circuit in eighteen years!
So it’s clear then, that whoever wins this year’s championship and the £50,000 prize will have earned it, with the arrival of the new Tatuus MSV GB4-025 car clearly heightening the series appeal.
Hillspeed’s Dan Guinchard is the early leader thanks to his podium-finishing single-seater return, but in truth it could have been any of five different drivers that could have left the East Midlands as the early frontrunner.
Elite Motorsport’s Isaac Phelps made an immediate impression by taking both poles on offer, and dominating the first race. Teammate Alex Kattoulas was on the podium twice while the third Elite driver Ary Bansal commanded the second race of the weekend.
Graham Brunton Racing’s Alex Berg, son of 1980s F1 racer Allen, was the third different driver to win a race during the season opener, and is equal on points with Douglas Motorsport’s Enzo Hallman, another podium finisher.
The second Hillspeed driver Leandro Juncos was a lap away from leaving Donington Park as the championship leader, only for late drama in the final contest to scupper those plans, though he made an impression with his feisty overtaking moves!
Another to prove a master of race craft was KMR Sport’s Alex O’Grady, who started from 25th on the grid for all three races after a qualifying technical disqualification, but gained a combined 35 places!
Douglas Motorsport’s Luke Hilton completes the early top-10, and was a testing pace setter here in March.
Callum Baxter and Mayer Deonarine complete the all-Canadian line-up at Graham Brunton Racing, and are just ahead of fellow series returnees Jack Taylor (Fortec) and Leon Wilson (Arden), with the second Arden of Ava Dobson the lead female driver in the race for the €50,000 prize towards a potential 2026 F1 Academy seat.
Next up is Douglas Motorsport’s Dayton Coulthard (son of 13-time F1 race winner and BRDC President David), who scored a top-10 finish in his first weekend of car racing, with Fortec’s Thomas Ingram Hill two points behind.
Josh McLean (Pace) and Jason Pribyl (ADM) are equal on points, with Fortec’s Luca Magnussen, son of Jan and brother of Kevin, completing the top-20.
Neirin Evans (Rossverde Scorpio), Holly Miall (Fox), Caitlyn McDaniel (Fox), Megan Bruce and Lily-May Watkins (KMR Sport) complete the entry list at the time of writing.
