What they said: Donington Park race two

Brandon McCaughan, Liam McNeilly and Harry Burgoyne were the top three drivers in the second race of the weekend at Donington Park. Here’s how each driver reacted at the end of the contest.

Winner, Brandon McCaughan, KMR Sport:
“Amazing, what a feeling. At the end there we were just pulling away and the car was comfortable underneath me. The best feeling of my life, what a day! I’m having the time of my life in his championship, I love it. A huge thank you to my sponsors, everyone that’s helped get me here, all the work from my dad, it makes it feel so much better when you’ve having to fight to be here. Thanks to the team as well, the car was mega.

“I’m so happy, there’s a lot of pressure, you don’t know what you’re coming into and this could be my last day in a slicks and wings car, I just don’t know. So I’m just going out and giving it all I can, and you can’t let the pressure get to you. Just have to keep cool and enjoy yourself, and I definitely enjoyed that one!”

Second, Liam McNeilly, Fox Motorsport:
“I got a great start from fourth to first before the first corner. But we struggled, early on I just had way too much oversteer, and Brandon drove a great race, so fair play to him. A bit disappointing.

“We thought it was going to be a bit wetter than it first was, so we’ll learn from that and if it’s wet later on, that’s something we’ll work on.

“Anything can happen in the reverse grid. There might be a few safety cars involved which could bunch the field up, so we’ll see what we can do, but anything could happen.”

Third, Harry Burgoyne, KMR Sport:
“I kind of messed up a bit, but it is what it is, it’s racing. I managed to get a really good start and got up to fourth or third, and then I tried to keep catching but I made a mistake, locked up and went straight on into the gravel. I managed to get past Finn Harrison at the last corner and then pushed on to Granfors at the end.

“I was just following but I grabbed my front right and just went straight on. But I had to be aggressive with the moves that I was doing, and in these conditions you can come back very easily. You can make a mistake or get too much wheelspin and people can come straight back up the inside, but you have to be aggressive in these conditions."
