Silverstone GB4 qualifying: Last lap Harrison secures double pole

Silverstone GB4 qualifying: Last lap Harrison secures double pole

27 April 2024

A last lap effort from Elite Motorsport's Finn Harrison was enough to secure a superb double pole position in tricky damp conditions at Silverstone.

Fortec’s Linus Granfors had led the way for much of the session, but Harrison’s final flier was enough to put him 0.148s ahead at the top of the pack, demoting Granfors to second, while Arden’s Leon Wilson completed the top-three, which was covered by just a quarter of a second.

Granfors had topped the times by 1.5 seconds entering the second half of the session, but the field began to close the gap until with just a few moments to go, less than a tenth of a second covered the top-three.

When Granfors didn't set a new best time on his last lap, Harrison was in prime position to pounce, and with two overall best sector times, he jumped to the top of the times, with his second best time also enough to top the second fastest times too.

Outside of the top-three, Harrison's teammate Alisha Palmowski was fourth fastest ahead of the KMR Sport trio of Brandon McCaughan, Harry Burgoyne and Chloe Grant, who were covered by less than three tenths of a second.

The Graham Brunton Racing duo of Callum Baxter and Mayer Deonarine were eighth and ninth, while Fortec's Jack Taylor completed the top-10.

On second fastest times, Harrison actually increased his margin for the race two grid, almost three tenths clear of Wilson who moves up to second ahead of Granfors.

Palmowski is fourth again ahead of Burgoyne, while privateer Marcus Luzio jumps up to sixth ahead of Grant, McCaughan, Deonarine and Hickey.

The first race of the weekend is due to commence at 17.00.
