McCaughan claims first bragging rights in George Russell Pole Position Cup

02 April 2024

KMR Sport’s Brandon McCaughan claimed the early lead in the George Russell Pole Position Cup battle, after securing both poles at Oulton Park.

On his debut weekend in the series, his first event out of Formula Ford racing, the Shootout winner showed he’d made a strong adaptation to slicks and wings with his pace in qualifying.

He took race one pole by 0.070s after a very competitive first qualifying session of the year, defeating Elite Motorsport’s Alisha Palmowski in the process.

With race two pole settled by each driver’s second fastest times, McCaughan headed Palmowski again, this time by less than half a tenth.

As the Irish racer continues to assemble a budget to stay on the grid for the full campaign, his £250 earnings from the event (£125 per pole) will do him no harm at all.

Prizes in the competition are provided by long-time series supporter John Cavill, son of Jack. The driver with the most pole positions at the end of the year wins the Pole Position Cup, plus the end of year £1,000 prize, while their team receives the same honours.
