Kulkarni’s persistence rewarded with Brands Hatch podium

Fortec Motorsport’s Aditya Kulkarni earned his third podium of the season at Brands Hatch, as the young Indian driver moved up to fifth place in the championship standings.

Kulkarni is locked in battle with fellow 15-year-old contender Harry Burgoyne for the position, with the pair separated by six points heading into next month’s Donington Park season finale.

For Kulkarni, he’s still viewing each event as a chance to make progress in his first season of car racing.

“Every weekend is a learning opportunity for me at the moment” he says. “We didn’t quite have the pace last weekend at Brands Hatch, but it was a great chance for me to show my race craft instead.”

He did just that by making position gains in the opening two races to finish ahead of his qualifying position, and then held off front-runners Liam McNeilly and Cooper Webster in a drag to the line in the final contest.

“The last race in particular was a lot of fun. Liam and Cooper really pushed me hard, it’s clear why those guys are up at the front of the championship.

“But I hit all my marks, made sure I kept a defensive line and just tried to stay focused. It’s a difficult circuit to overtake on too, which helped me out to a degree, but even so, I was delighted to come home with second place.”

He now heads to Donington with the intention of maintaining his form and ending the campaign on a high.

“It’s nice to reward the team with a result like that after a tricky weekend, and now I’m looking forward to building on it at Donington.”
