KMR Sport’s Tom Mills heads into the final GB4 race of the weekend at Brands Hatch safe in the knowledge that a top-five finish from 11th on the grid guarantees him the title.
That is because such a position would give him a points tally that is impossible for Cooper Webster, now the only other driver still in mathematical contention, to reach across the rest of the season.
Here are the other permutations that can lead to Mills’ taking the title in race three:
If Mills finishes 14th (last), Webster must finish fifth or higher to keep the championship alive heading to Donington
If Mills finishes 13th, Webster must finish fifth or higher
If Mills finishes 12th, Webster must finish fourth or higher
If Mills finishes 11th, Webster must finish fourth or higher
If Mills finishes 10th, Webster must finish third or higher
If Mills finishes 9th, Webster must finish third or higher
If Mills finishes 8th, Webster must finish second or higher
If Mills finishes 7th, Webster must win the race
If Mills finishes 6th, Webster must win the race
If Mills finishes fifth or above, he is champion no matter where Webster finishes
Should Webster fail to finish the race, Mills becomes champion there and then.
Mills heads into the final race with an advantage of 115 points over Webster, and needs to end the event with a margin of 105 or more points.
