How to follow the Donington Park weekend

How to follow the Donington Park weekend

24 May 2023

This weekend marks the first of GB4’s two trips to Donington Park this season, with four days of activity coming up in the East Midlands. The event starts with two days of testing before the race weekend kicks off on Saturday, and all the action can be followed on the GB4 website, with live timing throughout, and live streaming of the expanded four-race programme.

Here’s the important times to keep an eye on this week, with live timing and then streaming available here.

THURSDAY
10.10-10.40 – Session one
14.40-15.10 – Session two
16.50-17.20 – Session three

The 15-car entry will kick start weekend preparations with three half hour sessions on the Grand Prix circuit, allowing drivers to get up to speed ahead of the event. Current championship leader Tom Mills lapped below the series lap record pace in testing pre-season, with his time of 1m28.172s being faster than the quickest qualifying time of 1m29.637s set last year by reigning champion Nikolas Taylor.

FRIDAY
10.30-11.10 – Session one
13.40-14.20 – Session two
15.55-16.35 – Session three

Three more sessions take place on Friday, but extended to 40 minutes each, making for two hours’ total track time at Donington Park.

SATURDAY
10.55-11.10 – Qualifying
14.15-14.33 – Race one (Silverstone)
17.45-18.03 – Race one

A slightly unconventional Saturday starts with qualifying, which as usual will determine the starting grids for the usual race one and two, with fastest times counting towards race one and the second fastest times forming the race two grid. However the first race of the Silverstone event, cancelled due to poor weather, will be carried over to this weekend, and will be the first racing action of the day. The grid for that particular contest will be based on the Silverstone qualifying result, and only the drivers that entered the Silverstone rounds will be able to enter.

The rest of the weekend follows GB4’s usual format with all Donington entrants permitted to compete. Live streaming of both Saturday races will commence 20 minutes before each encounter.

SUNDAY
10.35-10.53 – Race two
15.55-16.13 – Race three

Race two starts at 10.35, with the grid based on each driver’s second fastest times from qualifying. The final race is the reverse grid encounter, with every driver within 103% of pole position reversed on the starting grid, where there was plenty of frantic action last year. Streaming for each race will again start 20 minutes beforehand, and will include post-race analysis.
