It’s been a promising start to official pre-season testing for GB4 newcomer Liam McNeilly, having topped the times at Silverstone and following that up with the second quickest time at Oulton Park last week.
The Ginetta Junior graduate, who steps up to GB4 with family-run team Fox Motorsport, was almost half a second clear of the pack on combined times at Silverstone, despite missing the first two days of the test at the Grand Prix venue.
“It’s always good to see your name at or near the top of the timesheets, so it was a really good week, not just for the times we’ve set, but for how I’m feeling in the car and how the team’s adapting to running single-seaters” he commented.
The Oulton Park test followed shortly afterwards, and McNeilly was again competitive despite challenging cold and damp on track conditions, and reckons he has time in reserve at the venue for the season opener on Easter weekend.
“We didn’t do any new-tyre runs while the fastest driver did, so we know we have something left in the tank there.
“We’re keeping a very measured view on things for now, we have a day at Donington and two at Snetterton to come, and then we’ll be racing.”
Testing resumes at Donington Park next Thursday (23 March) where the majority of this year’s field are expected to be in action, before heading to Snetterton the following week (28/29 March).
