Kevin Mills: “Our title defence starts here!”

22 February 2023

Kevin Mills Racing returned to GB4 action at the MotorSport Vision Racing Season Launch day at Donington Park yesterday (21 February), the same venue the squad clinched the inaugural teams’ championship title at last year.

Securing the title with a hat-trick of wins from the final three races, the team has bounced into 2023 with a positive frame of mind and has been quick to sign up two new drivers ahead of the new season, and intends to finalise a third addition before the year kicks off at Oulton Park on 7-10 April.

With new recruits Jack Clifford and Jeremy Fairbairn due to arrive in the UK in the coming days ahead of a busy pre-season testing campaign, Tom Mills, son of eponymous team owner Kevin, and a double race-winner last year, was on driving duties at Donington as the squad warmed up for forthcoming season.

“It’s great to be back here” said Kevin Mills. “Obviously this is where we had our best weekend of the year, and where we clinched the title, so it’s fitting that preparation for our title defence starts here!”

With last year’s line-up of Tom Mills and Jarrod Waberski, the team took six wins from the 24 races, and Mills is optimistic of backing those performances up in 2023.

“Last year it was all new. Both drivers were new to the cars, we were new to the cars, so we were starting from zero. Obviously we now have all of last year’s experience to build on, and I’m really excited about the driver line-up we’ve assembled so far.

“Jeremy comes to us with some really good experience of slicks and wings racing in the USA, and we’ve already worked together at the Formula Ford Festival last year. As for Jack, he has slightly less experience, but has shown a lot of potential in Australian Formula Ford and I think we’re really going to be able to help him build on that as he moves on to cars with aero.”

Being the reigning team champions comes with plenty of kudos, and that means the team has attracted strong interest for an expansion to three cars.

“We’d love to run three cars this year” Mills added. “We’re getting a few enquiries for that and hopefully we can get something in place soon. We’re already very strong with Jeremy and Jack, but a third car would mean we’d be in a really encouraging position ahead of Oulton Park. Hopefully we can get the right deal in place soon!”
