Race for National Formula Ford Championship GB4 shoot-out prize intensifies

12 August 2022

There are just two rounds remaining in this year’s BRSCC National Formula Ford Championship, and young drivers in the series have six races left to book their place in the end of year GB4 shoot-out.

The lead three teenage drivers (aged 19 or under on 31 December 2022) in the series’ Pro Class will be invited to take part in the shoot-out, with a £20,000 prize towards a campaign in GB4 next year on offer for the winning driver.

Lucas Romanek, a GB4 race-winner on a one-off Silverstone appearance, and Colin Queen have emerged as the lead two teenage drivers in this year’s running and firmly in contention for the shoot-out.

Romanek has impressed in his second season of Formula Ford racing, and has taken four wins to sit second in the overall standings, with his triumphs coming at Knockhill, two at Anglesey and another at Snetterton, while Queen, also in his sophomore year, sits third with two victories at Knockhill and Croft.

Romanek’s Oldfield Motorsport teammate Brandon McCaughan is the third highest-placed teenage contender at the moment, ahead of Ben Cochran and Gabe Tesch.

The places at the shoot-out will be decided at Brands Hatch on 20/21 August and Donington Park on 24/25 September, with three races per weekend.
