Fortec’s Nikolas Taylor could win the GB4 title at his first opportunity in race two at Donington Park on Sunday morning.
The Anglo-Malaysian has a simple task ahead of him; finish eighth or higher to guarantee the title. And he starts the race from pole position!
The reason why it’s so simple, is that Max Marzorati, the only other driver in with a chance of taking the title, can only now end the season with a maximum score of 515 points. He’s currently on 457 points, and can score 35 points for a win in race two, and 23 in race three should he win from his expected grid slot of fourth.
Taylor already has 502 points, so a score of 13 points (equivalent to an eighth place finish) in race two will put the title beyond all doubt regardless of where Marzorati finishes, as any tie score situation would be in Taylor’s favour due to his nine race wins.
Marzorati starts race two from 14th on the grid after a difficult qualifying session. Making things even more difficult for the Hillspeed driver, is that if Taylor so much as finishes the race, Marzorati needs to win to take the title all the way to the wire.
Should Taylor fail to score in race two, Marzorati still needs to finish on the podium to take the championship fight to the last round.
So to put it simply:
If Taylor finishes in the top-eight, he is champion
If Taylor finishes anywhere from ninth to 14th, he is champion if Marzorati doesn’t win
If Taylor fails to score, he is still champion if Marzorati finishes fourth or lower
