MSV announces £20,000 GB4 shoot-out prize for National Formula Ford contenders

03 February 2022

MotorSport Vision (MSV) has announced a £20,000 GB4 Championship partnered by the BRDC prize fund for the 2022 Avon Tyres National Formula Ford Championship, to assist young drivers in making the transition to slicks-and-wings racing.

The prize will go to one of the top-three teenage Avon Tyres National Formula Ford drivers in the championship’s final standings. The successful trio will be invited to take part in a three-way GB4 shoot-out, with the winner scooping £20,000 towards a 2023 campaign in the new single-seater series.

Any Avon Tyres National Formula Ford driver who will remain 19 years of age or under by the end of 2022 is eligible to compete for the package, which reaffirms MSV’s commitment to promoting best value single-seater racing.

GB4 makes its debut on UK circuits in 2022, and aims to work closely with the existing grassroots structure to provide a cost-effective route up the single-seater ladder.

Chairman of the BRSCC, Peter Daly, said: “Our hugely successful 2021 Formula Ford Festival has once again shown the racing world that top class Formula Ford 1600 racing is in great health, and that the formula still offers the most viable and cost-effective first step on the ladder to success in higher levels of single seater car racing. This amazing gesture by Jonathan Palmer and his MSV organisation will give a talented young BRSCC FF1600 driver an opportunity to showcase their skills in the GB4 Championship with the comfort of knowing that £20,000 of their season’s costs are already covered.

“On behalf of the BRSCC I wish to thank Jonathan Palmer and MSV for offering this valuable prize, and our club will in return use every opportunity available to us to support the GB4 championship as the natural next step for our talented FF1600 racers”.

MSV Chief Executive, Jonathan Palmer, said: “At MSV we’re very passionate about assisting young drivers in achieving their goals through cost-effective single-seater racing. Through our GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC, and its immediate predecessors BRDC British F3 and BRDC F4, we’ve created an outstanding value pathway which has been chosen by talents such as George Russell and Lando Norris in their quest for F1. Our new GB4 Championship now extends that pathway with an even more affordable first step and I’m delighted that we’re able to offer a package to assist the most promising young Formula Ford 1600 drivers.”

Further details of the full process and GB4 prize package will be announced in due course. For more information about the Avon Tyres Formula Ford Championship and the GB4 Championship partnered by the BRDC, follow these links:
