Romanek romps to maiden win for Oldfield Motorsport at Silverstone

08 May 2022

Series newcomers Lucas Romanek and Oldfield Motorsport soared to a GB4 victory at the end of their debut event in the final contest at Silverstone.

Romanek started fifth on the grid, but fought his way to second on the opening lap, and then passed Graham Brunton Racing’s Logan Hannah with a stunning round the outside move at Stowe on lap four.

From there, Romanek extended a lead of two seconds over Hannah, who claimed her first podium in GB4. A late move on Tom Mills secured a podium for Fortec’s Elias Adestam, but that move was completed with all four wheels off the track at Stowe, so the move is being investigated.

A mass battle behind them provided some sensational viewing, as Jack Sherwood, Megan Gilkes, Max Marzorati and Alex Walker went wheel to wheel and changed positions with incredible regularity.

Elite’s Sherwood started 11th but set the fastest lap as he soared through the field, and claimed fourth, just a tenth of a second behind Adestam and 0.6 seconds clear of Hillspeed’s Gilkes.

Hillspeed’s Marzorati floated up and down through the order and once more had some sensational wheel to wheel action with his teammate. He ultimately claimed sixth while Mills dropped down to seventh in the final couple of laps.

Elite’s Alex Walker reclaimed an advantage at the top of the standings with eighth, as main title rival Nikolas Taylor retired on the first lap after a collision with Jarrod Waberski.

RossoVerde’s Christian Lester was ninth ahead of Fortec’s Jessica Edgar, with pole sitter Chloe Grant finishing 11th.

Grant made a good start from pole to lead the field down to Copse, but a brave move from Hannah at Maggotts seconds later thrust her into the lead. Behind them, a charging Taylor from 10th on the grid looked to make early progress, but a move on a handful of cars at Vale on lap one saw him bounce into the air after colliding with Waberski, with both retiring on the spot.

Hannah led the first three laps, but Romanek was an ever present threat, and finally made his move stick around at Stowe on lap four.

Initially he struggled to pull away, but in the latter stages of the race he was able to extend a small lead to give him and his team a victory on their maiden GB4 weekend,
