As first seasons in motorsport go, Nikolas Taylor’s 2022 campaign in GB4 will take some beating. Having not raced a car before, and just a handful of top-line kart races before that, Taylor claimed nine wins from 24 races to storm to the inaugural title.
Pushed all the way by Max Marzorati and Jarrod Waberski, Taylor kept his cool to wrap up the championship a race early, 50-points clear of the opposition.
Aside from winning the title, other obvious highlights included a hat-trick of victories at Silverstone and winning the George Russell Pole Position Cup too.
Here’s his thoughts on the 2022 campaign.
Best moment
Either the Silverstone triple because to win all three races is very special and also to do it at one of my favourite circuits is amazing, or the race that won me the championship. It was a chaotic race and the relief when I crossed the line was one of the best feelings of my career so far.
Toughest moment
Brands Hatch race one, wanting to extend the championship lead further and was in the lead for the first few laps, it really hurt when I crashed. But I can really learn from this mistake in changing conditions and take it further in my career.
Favourite race of the year
Silverstone Race in May for sure. One of the best races of the season for me with the lead changing so many times, with the safety car out for the first time. It was great racing and wouldn’t mind reliving it again!
Favourite driver to race against this year
Max Marzorati, all the racing we have had this year side by side has always been clean and fair, even the last race of the season.
That what if moment
There has been a few like Snetterton race two when I didn’t finish, and Brands Hatch race one when I also didn’t finish. I know I could’ve won the championship earlier but I will learn from these mistakes.
If I could race anything next year, it would be…
I would love to race GB3 next year because of the new car. It’s really quick and I already know the tracks and I feel like I could be very strong next year fighting for wins.
I’m going to spend my winter doing…
Mostly gym and sim work, nothing more and probably some studying for mock exams!
