Elite Motorsport branched out into single-seaters for the first time in 2021, as the multiple Ginetta Junior champions entered the GB3 Championship with a three-driver line-up.
With an initial foot through the door, the team headed by Eddie Ives will also enter the new GB4 Championship partnered by the BRDC in 2022, and believes the series will prove to be extremely popular.
“It’s going to hit the sweet spot in terms of budget for entry level single-seaters,” Ives commented.
“Jonathan Palmer has had a savvy idea of bringing in an F4 car that’s been used abroad and the lower budgets mean that 15-year-olds straight out of Ginetta Juniors or Formula Ford, or more so straight out of karting, can go into it without having to find a big budget.”
The Thetford-based squad has won the Ginetta Junior Championship in four of the last five seasons, and took its 2020 champion Tom Lebbon into GB3, but the team believes that GB4 will prove to be a good middle-ground for drivers between the two series.
“We’ve proved this year that a good kid can go straight from Ginetta Junior into GB3, but GB4 gives us more options and more alternatives.”
Ives also confirms that driver interest has been very strong for the new championship.
“We’ve had plenty of interest, we’ve got quite a few people just waiting for us to get hold of a car, and then we’ll be out testing and we’ll see from there.
“It’s a great step on the British motorsport scene, Jonathan Palmer is getting right behind it and he’ll make it work.”
